SMALL ACTS EVERY DAY

A book encouraging Kindness, Uniqueness and Support

“Small Acts Every Day” is a children’s book about a student’s journey of feeling different and the struggle to fit in, and a teacher who notices and brings in Get REAL to run our programming for her students.

This K-3 picture book is an excellent mental health and anti-bullying story that highlights the challenges that many students face, and encourages students to tell their story, seek support from one another and invites readers to ask themselves, “What small act can I do?”

This book has been a labour of love on so many fronts. Rachael Harrison, approached us in 2020 with the concept for a children’s book based on her experiences as a Get REAL speaker, but aimed towards younger audiences than we currently reach with our workshops.

She showed us what she had been working on and we were blown away - the story, the illustrations, and the messages were beautiful - and we knew this could be something special if we could get it made.

We worked on finished the draft as a team and then pitched it to our amazing partner Purdys Chocolatier, who were thrilled and committed to fundraise to fund 1,000 copies of the book!

A massive thanks to Julia, Kriston, and Joye and the whole Purdys team for believing in this project and coming up with the funding to make this happen - we truly could not have done this without their valuable support.

Thank you also to Jaymie for her brilliant work digitizing Rachael’s original illustration and Wren for creating this through lesson plan to help teachers and students take further learnings from the book!
